Washington Youth Tour thru Jackson EMC

Opportunity for a Winder-Barrow Sophomore/Junior Student:

Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is now accepting applications for their Washington Youth Tour (WYT) delegates. Jackson EMC will send four student delegates on an all-expense paid leadership and team building experience to Washington, D.C., June 7-14, 2017, for the 2018 WYT, sponsored by the nation’s electric cooperatives.

Each high school will select one student semi-finalist.  The student doesn’t have to be a Jackson EMC member, but they must attend a high school in Jackson EMC’s service territory.

A nominee should be a well-rounded sophomore or junior who will be 16 years of age by June 1, 2017, with demonstrated leadership skills, traits and desire, along with a balance of academic excellence, extra-curricular activities and community involvement.

As college admissions are becoming more competitive, we also realize that more students are looking for additional activities to place on their applications and resumes, and this program will not only provide a great resume builder, but will highlight potential leaders as the trip focuses on American history, U.S. government, the cooperative world and leadership.  Candidates should be interested in, and perhaps benefit from, a leadership experience of a lifetime.

To apply Winder-Barrow High School students complete the following items and turn them into Mr. Peppers in the Counseling Office by Thursday, February 15, 2018 (packets are available in the upon request):

A WBHS committee will review all applications and select a school finalist.  Then a WYT committee will then review all applications and select ten finalists. Those finalists will participate in a panel interview with community, business, and university leaders on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the Jackson EMC Corporate Office in Jefferson, GA. Jackson EMC’s four delegates will join 110 Georgia participants and meet students from 42 other states with 1,500 total students selected across the country for the youth tour.
