In January, K-8 Media Specialists began receiving an autographed copy of award-winning Georgia author Carmen Deedy’s book, “Martina the Beautiful Cockroach.” Carmen Deedy has signed 1,355 copies of “Martina the Beautiful Cockroach.” The Georgia Department of Education is sending one copy of the book along with a Literacy Champions poster and a letter from Superintendent Woods to every K-8 Media Specialist.
This gift is part of the Georgia Department of Education’s Literacy Champions campaign: to have kids to read, write, and communicate in all possible ways. The state of Georgia believes all students can become literacy leaders as they share stories through words, music, or drama. Media Specialists can participate in this exciting literacy campaign by sharing their Literacy Champions stories and adventures on social media and with the GaDOE. Share on social media using #LitChampsGA or send photos to social@doe.k12.ga.us.
