Our STEAMmates at the Barrow Regional Medical Center Laboratory welcomed 7th graders at all four of our middle schools to a behind the scenes look at the hospital’s blood bank and demonstrated a real-time blood typing.  To enhance the student classroom experience related to GPS Standard S7L2,  Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems, the doctors in the lab not only shared their time and expertise with the students through a Zoom Video Conference  through the typing demonstration, but also answered questions about safety procedures realted to the donation, storage, and usage of blood. Students also learned a bit about the education requirements for similar careers in the healthcare industry.

An archive of the session can be found on the BCSS STEAM Integration YouTube Channel, but is also embedded in this post for your convenience.
