In this dance arts-integrated lesson, students analyze the electrical properties of insulators and conductors through choreographing small group movements. This lesson addresses all three elements of 5th grade GPS science standard S5P3 concerning (a) the relationship between electricity and magnetism, (b) the components of a complete electrical circuit, and (c) common conductive and insulative materials. The dance arts component of this lesson that ensures student engagement and modality enhancement is “locomotive movement” and meets GPS Dance standards D5FD1: Identify and demonstrate movement element skills, and terminology in dance, and D5CR1: Demonstrate an understanding of creative and choreographic principals, processes, and structures.
