On January 6th, the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement released the names of the five winners of the fifth round of the Innovation in Teaching Competition. On that list was Barrow County School System’s second winner, Ashley Bailey. Mrs. Bailey teaches 6th grade math, science, social studies, and English Language Arts at Bear Creek Middle School in an integrated STEAM education format. She will receive a $2,000 stipend, and Bear Creek will be awarded a $5,000 grant for implementation of Georgia’s instructional standards. Over the spring, Georgia Public Broadcasting will be conducting interviews with Mrs. Bailey, filming her classroom, and preparing materials and videos of her featured units of instruction for public use. Take a few minutes to watch her submission video.
